What is electric floor warming?

Electric cables or mats are incorporated into a compatible floor assembly and controlled by a thermostat. The heated footprint, electrical supply and product instructions guide the design. Schluter’s DITRA-HEAT is one example that combines floor warming and uncoupling.

What is hydronic floor heat?

Hydronic systems circulate heated water through tubing. They are part of a broader mechanical design that includes the heat source and controls. A qualified heating professional should evaluate suitability and the relationship to the home’s existing system.

How do you compare running costs?

Use the designed system’s capacity, expected schedule, heated area and actual utility rates. Room heat loss and insulation affect the result. Avoid a universal monthly-cost claim without those inputs.

A common question

Will a warm tile floor heat the entire bathroom?

Not automatically. A comfort-warming system and primary space heating are different design goals. The room’s heating requirement must be assessed before relying on the floor alone.
