A damaged tile is a symptom. Check whether the problem is isolated or points to movement, moisture or the assembly beneath it.

One impact chip tells a different story from a line of cracks crossing several tiles. Photograph the entire affected area and note whether it has changed. Loose pieces, recurring joint cracks and nearby dampness are useful observations to report.
Why can replacement tile fail again?
If the underlying condition remains, a replacement can repeat the same failure. The substrate, preparation, coverage and movement details may need review. A localized repair should include a discussion of what can and cannot be established without opening more of the floor.
What should I save?
Spare tile, product boxes, installer records and photographs from construction can help. Matching an older finish is not always possible, so compare the available replacement material before committing to a visible repair.
A common question
Does a hollow sound prove a tile is loose?
Sound alone is not a complete diagnosis. The assembly, location and other symptoms need to be considered in an on-site assessment.
